Committee Mission
It is the mission of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Program to promote member commitment and retention by: • Raising awareness of chamber activities and benefits • Informing and involving new chamber members to promote strong continuing membership • Encouraging meaningful and beneficial participation in the chamber's programs • Serving as a liaison between the chamber staff and membership Who are the Richmond Chamber Ambassadors? The Ambassador Program consists of volunteers from the Chamber membership who donate their time to assist the chamber in various activities. As informed chamber representatives, the ambassadors serve as the entity of the chamber that focuses on the chamber membership retention – the backbone of the organization. AMBASSADOR BENEFITS A. Honor to be chosen as an Ambassador, for future references. B. Visibility/recognition for each member and for his/her business. C. Networking opportunities and making business contacts. D. Opportunity to be awarded “Ambassador of the Year.” E. Gain exposure in the community from attending ribbon cuttings, grand openings and fundraisers and have the opportunity to meet other community and business leaders. F. Acquire experience and knowledge of chamber operations and benefits, so if interested you are prepared to assume other leadership roles in the chamber such as the Richmond Chamber Board of Directors. G. Earn points for key action items that can be used to attend the chamber annual awards banquet. H. All Ambassadors are invited to participate in the chamber’s annual Joint Leadership Trip. I. Opportunities for free continuing education and professional development at each monthly meeting. PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN AMBASSADOR A. Ambassadors will act as the public‐relations arm of the chamber and will assist in recruiting new members and retaining existing members. B. Each month you will be responsible to add your points to the ambassador board in the chamber office. C. Ambassadors will assist in recruiting new members by explaining member benefits, promoting chamber activities and passing referrals to the chamber staff. Ambassadors will assist in retaining current members and encouraging involvement in chamber committees as well as chamber events, programs, etc. D. Ambassadors will be asked to serve as chamber representatives at functions as requested by the chamber including ribbon cuttings, grand openings, fundraisers and various other community events. If you are requested to volunteer for a specific event, you will attend this function at no charge to the Ambassador. E. We ask that Ambassadors wear their name badges at all functions related to chamber activity to best identify they are representing the Richmond Chamber of Commerce. Badges can be obtained through the chamber. F. Ambassadors will meet monthly, usually on the first Thursday from 12 – 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided at most meetings. Special meetings may be scheduled on the call of the Ambassador Chair. AMBASSADOR QUALIFICATIONS A. Each new person applying to become an Ambassador will be asked to provide a short statement of why they should be chosen to be on the Ambassador Committee; which will be reviewed and chosen by the VP of Membership, Ambassador Chair and the Director of Events at the Richmond Chamber. B. Each person applying to become an Ambassador must sign and adhere to the rules and expectations of the chamber’s Ambassador Application. C. When chosen, the Ambassador will commit to a term of a six-month period, January–June or July-December. D. Membership shall be limited to persons who are members or employed by members in good standing of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, and who may be of assistance in furthering the objectives of the organization and who are willing to give their time and effort to this purpose. Members should have “flexibility in the workplace” so that assignments can be fulfilled. E. The Ambassador Committee shall be comprised of no more than 25 members. F. Ambassadors will be expected to make every effort to attend functions, meetings and/or activities at all times. Inability to attend should be communicated to the Ambassador Chair, the chamber or the VP of Membership. *Please note, more than three absences will result in the loss of your place on the Ambassador Committee. G. If an Ambassador can no longer fulfill his/her obligations or responsibilities to the committee, the Ambassador is to advise the Ambassador Chair and the VP of Membership.
